The Metropolitan Area Youth Symphony (MAYS) was founded in 2010 as a tribute to the legacy and musical ideals of Central Florida musician and educator, Jonathan May.
“Mr. May,” as his students knew him, directed several youth orchestras and founded many more. The MAYS is a living tribute to Jonathan May’s philosophy of inclusive, community-based music education, which is the foundation upon which the orchestra has built its program, one student musician at a time.
The orchestra features eight orchestral groups in Orlando and Lake County, several in-school strings programs, and performs over ten concerts and recitals per season. MAYS also holds workshops and master classes throughout the year for all music students in the Central Florida community.
