Susan G. Komen 2021 VIRTUAL MORE THAN PINK WALKTM ORLANDO

March 6 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

While the event will remain virtual, Susan G. Komen Florida is excited to bring back the annual MORE THAN PINK Walk TM Orlando on March 6, 2021. The event will kick off at 9:00 a.m. via Komen’s special More Than Pink Walk Orlando Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/komenorlandowalk) and will feature an exciting opening ceremony, recognition for the survivors and thrivers who have faced a breast cancer diagnosis and important updates in the fight against the disease before participants are encouraged to walk where they are. Deborah Hausman, the daughter, granddaughter, and niece of three breast cancer survivors, will once again serve as chair of this event.

“My mother made a promise for over 30 years to counsel patients, advocate for change, and work with lawmakers to force insurance companies to pay for mammograms, if she could just beat the disease,” says Hausman whose mother is still healthy at the age of 91 today. “I am honored to be able to continue her work and do everything within my power to get closer to ending this disease.”

Hausman, the former owner of Quailhurst Stable and Vineyard in Sherwood, Oregon has been bringing horses to Florida during the winter season for many years and became a fulltime resident in 2015. In 2012, one of her fellow equestrians developed breast cancer. This  was something that hit close to home so when this friend asked if she had any desire to participate in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day in San Diego, it was a no-brainer. “That was the beginning of the realization that this organization clearly had a focused goal. I was ready and willing to jump into the opportunity to support in a larger way,” she says.

When her best friend was diagnosed with breast cancer just two years ago, it was another realization that pushed Hausman to do more to help eradicate this crisis of repeated incidents. “A few months after my friend’s diagnosis, I received an email from Komen Florida asking for my participation in the Breast Cancer Advocacy Summit in Washington D.C. I. kept seeing these signs that called me to them.”

Hausman, who first chaired the event last year, is continuing her dedication to the event that brings together hundreds of supporters to share laughter and tears while raising much needed funds for breast cancer treatment, patient advocacy, and lifesaving research in the fight against a disease that affects 1 in 8 women.

Virtual event opening ceremonies will honor survivors and those living with metastatic breast cancer, recognize sponsors and major fundraisers, and provide an opportunity to reflect on the accomplishments of the past year. Following the ceremony, attendees are invited to join by walking where they are (#WalkWhereYouAre and helping to raise awareness and much needed funds to support groundbreaking research and efforts to ensure that all those diagnosed with breast cancer receive the care they need.

“This year more than ever, we need support. Komen provides needed care, mobilizes communities, drives research, and takes action in the fight to end breast cancer. Let’s make sure they have the funding that will save lives,” ended Hausman.

The National Presenting Sponsor is Bank of America. The National Series Sponsor is Walgreens.
