Ideas for Family Fun at Home

Games:

Now is the time for you to break out the games you have in your closet. You know the ones…those buried deep! Take the time to learn some new games, either in that closet or online. Sit together and play! In fact, if you want to connect with family and friends away from your home, try Houseparty for some fun play!

Take a tour of your neighborhood (or surrounding neighborhood):

Get on your bikes or scooters. Go for a walk. Or, get in the car. No matter how you travel, find some unique areas of the hood and explore. Walk down to the pond. Take a fishing pole! Pack picnic and enjoy it by the lake! You never know what you may uncover on your adventure.

Cuddle up on the couch:

Download a new movie. It can even be one of YOUR favorites. Expose the kids to some classic movies or watch something current. Time together watching shows or movies can be memory making. Consider throwing out the sleeping bags, blankets and bean bags to get comfortable. Don’t forget the option to make a tent or fort!

Try a new recipe:

If you don’t have cookbooks, look something up online. Get a recipe you’ve never tried before and be a sous chef. Let the kids take control and come up with something fun AND delicious. You may find a new family favorite for the future. It’s also a great time to teach them a new skill.

Get creative:

  • Do arts and crafts
  • Dress Up
  • Have a talent show
  • Host a dance party
  • Figure out what you can make with play-dough
  • Host a Disney movie marathon
  • Make some fun YouTube videos

Take a trip:

You can find so many trips on YouTube. Grab a map and discuss where you’re going. Then, let your fingers do the traveling to the computer or Smart TV. Pull up the field trip and take it together. You can make postcards from your trip and mail them to friends or family. Take photos in front of the screen to show your travels and memories. The sky is the limit. Pun intended!

So some good:

  • Make some masks
  • Make greeting cards or postcards for healthcare workers, grocery stores, retirement homes and more
  • Do some sidewalk art to impress those walking and biking through the neighborhood
  • Send cookies to a local firehouse

No matter how you choose to spend time, it’s all about getting creative and finding new fun in each day. We will get through this together. If you have any ideas, feel free to share them!
