Students ages 8 and up have the opportunity to participate in two-hour sessions where they will create their own video games! Level Up Academy will host a Parents Night Out on Friday January 10 to engage children while parents enjoy a date night downtown. Activities look at how games are made and provide opportunities to promote teamwork, project management, and creativity.

Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy will host the Press Play Conference also on Saturday, January 11. This free one-day event at the new UCF Downtown Campus is aimed at informing local students and caregivers about career opportunities in the video game, simulation and film industries. Ohoops, an organization dedicated to providing youth with professional basketball training, will host a live, virtual and constructive training session in their OHoops Lab in Oviedo on Sunday, January 12.

Also on Sunday, January 12, Enzian will host a screening and panel discussion for the Claude Shannon documentary titled: “The Bit Player.” Shannon was an American mathematician, electrical engineer, and cryptographer known as the “father of information theory.” He laid the theoretical foundations for digital circuits, which helped revolutionize the technological world. This film combines interviews with leading scientists, archival film, inventive animation and compelling commentary from Shannon himself to tell the story of an overlooked genius who never lost his childlike curiosity. This community event will kick off with a tech brunch, followed by the film screening, and a Q&A with director Mark Levinson. In addition, Levinson will participate in a panel discussion about Shannon’s legacy and impact with research scientist Elaine Raybourn of Sandia National Laboratories, founder of Tech Start-Up Automunge Nick Teague, and Associate Professor Azadeh Vosoughi from UCF’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
