GOODWILL INVITES CENTRAL FLORIDA TO TURN ‘DENIM INTO DREAMS’
Annual Goodwill Week Encourages Shoppers and Donors to Focus on Jeans
WHAT:
Recent data shows the average American discards approximately 81.5 pounds of clothes every year and that textile waste accounts for nearly 5% of all landfill space. That’s why Goodwill Industries of Central Florida (GICF) reminds the community to “Choose Secondhand First.”
During the organization’s annual Goodwill Week (May 5-11), Central Floridians are encouraged to turn “Denim into Dreams” by donating jeans that are taking up closet and dresser space, or by shopping for a new-to-you pair.
GICF accepts donations from the community to process and sell in its retail stores, keeping nearly 24 million pounds of unwanted household goods out of local landfills in 2023. More than 90% of the revenue generated through those sales is reinvested into the organization’s job training programs and employment assistance services.
