Florida Film Academy

Florida Film Academy is not a “traditional theater” per se, but all of our students act and perform in their original films. In this one of a kind program, students work is not seen on the stage, instead, their work is seen on the Big Screen!

We’ve also created a unique concept in performing arts called TALENT ED. This program offers acting, singing and dancing classes, traditional acting workshops, auditions for film and television but the twist is students produce an original screenplay and produce it for the big screen.

Everything we do is full production from script creation, acting techniques, to actually filming their work. Students can experience Florida Film Academy year round in our after school programs and summer film camps.

You are welcome to browse what our kids produce as well. Click here.

Central Florida Community Arts

After years of music-making, the founders of Central Florida Community Arts, Joshua Vickery and Jonathan Cole, came to the realization that Central Florida does not offer many cultural platforms for ALL musicians to use their talents. Therefore, in September of 2010, they decided to begin the journey of creating an incredible community arts program. They began reaching out to influential people in the Central Florida area and every one of them responded with overwhelming support – thus, Central Florida Community Arts was born. Since then, many people have been working hard to make this dream become a reality. The organization was molded into a non-profit 501(c)(3) entity and a Board of Directors and a team of staff members were developed.

After a successful kickoff in February 2011, CFCArts performed their inaugural concert to over 1,200 people in May of 2011, with a choir of over 130 singers and an orchestra of over 35 players. Since then, Central Florida Community Arts has grown exponentially to become the nation’s largest Community Choir, Florida’s largest Symphony Orchestra, a flourishing community theatre, and a multitude of performing arts programs for students of all ages. With the reimagining of the School of the Arts in 2018, the school now has an Academy offering private lessons and group classes, outreach programs for under-supported or otherwise marginalized populations, arts experiences for healthy, older adults, and arts and wellness programs at 88 sites. This organization thrives in its partnerships and collaborations and reaches thousands of artists of all ages and abilities across a five-county region. With the vision to give everyone in Central Florida the opportunity to connect, serve, and perform, CFCArts strives to create a safe place where the arts are affordable and accessible to all – no one is left behind.

The Athens Theatre

An Italian renaissance treasure among a talent filled town. The Athens Theatre in DeLand Florida has become a staple in the community since its doors opened. The historical site in DeLand Florida brings together the community through live performance art and live music.DeLand Athens theatre opened its doors January 6th 1922 as a vaudeville theatre. It was quickly deemed “a Gem of architecture” by DeLand Daily News. Henry DeLand wanted DeLand to be an Athens of Florida; the rich culture and elegance the theatre brought to the community was that and more.During the depression the theatre gave people an escape from the harshness which was people’s reality. Entire working class families were able to come see remarkable performances.

A renovation in the 1950s kept the theatre alive for another 40 years until costs, disrepair, and misuse inevitably led to the theatre closing in the 1990s.The community rose up and took a stand for the place that gave their lives endearing memories. 1994 came and the doors reopened thanks to a Florida Bureau of Historic Preservation Matching Grant, Main Street DeLand Association, and the people who held the theatre close to their hearts. In 2004, ownership was transferred to the Sands Theater Center Inc, which is where it remains today.Through the turbulence, the Athens Theatre stood behind Volusia County for over 80 years and thanks to the community now it will continue to have a beautiful future.

Today, the theatre offers adult and youth plays and musicals, youth camps and workshops, live performances, concerts, movies, charity events, and is even available to rent out privately for conferences, graduations, engagement photos, weddings, bat/bar mitzvahs, fundraisers and whatever special event you are planning! We even rent the marquee out to display proposals, anniversaries, birth announcements, or whatever message is important to you. Meal deals are available with select local restaurants when you show your tickets, making an evening at the Athens a perfect and affordable date night or family friendly treat!Come immerse yourself in rich culture and fun at the Athens Theatre.

What we do: We provide much needed programs for young people to experience performance based opportunities including theatre, music, set design, and costume design. We offer great experiences for students looking for fun recreational performing activities, as well as those with serious industry specific aspirations.

What we believe: We believe that every young person should have the opportunity to experience the performing arts from all angles and have the opportunity to pursue that experience as far as they can dream. Even the smallest, simplest exposure to the performing arts provides key benefits for young people as they grow and interact with their community. Numerous research studies have proven that performing arts programs provide wide ranging benefits for students, both in terms of overall academic achievement, social development, and valuable skills that can be applied to endeavors they pursue in grade school, college and into their adult lives.

Why local is better: We are locally owned and operated by people that live here and have our own kids and loved-ones enrolled in our programs. We are not a franchise diverting your dollars to anywhere else. We exist exclusively to serve the local community.
