INTO THE WOODS Family Video Review – The cast of Into the Woods brought the classics to life! From Little Red, to Jack, Cinderella, and Rapunzel each story reimagined into something new. The cast had the theater bursting out in laughter the whole night long. A show for all ages to enjoy! The talent was top-notch, including the orchestra who sit atop the stage, a character of their own. Couldn’t think of a better way to spend a night out on the town this week! We were invited by Dr. Phillips Center to preview this production, but the views are our own.

What:
Direct from Broadway, the critically acclaimed and much beloved production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Tony®-winning triumph is coming to Orlando with its Broadway stars to boot. Into the Woods features Montego Glover as The Witch, Stephanie J. Block as The Baker’s Wife, Sebastian Arcelus as The Baker, and Gavin Creel as Cinderella’s Prince/Wolf – all reprising their Broadway roles – in a production called “radiant” (Variety), “enchanting” (The Wall Street Journal), and “a priceless revival with a perfect cast” (The Washington Post). Directed by Lear deBessonet (Hercules), this theatrical event honors Sondheim’s legendary memory and his Broadway masterpiece like never before.

The musical intertwines the plots of several well-known fairy tales, including Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel. The characters venture into the woods to pursue their individual wishes, but their desires have unintended consequences and they must confront the consequences of their actions.
Dr. Phillips Center selected as one of 10 to present the straight-from-Broadway production:
Into the Woods tour will play a series of select engagements across the U.S., including seven performances in Walt Disney Theater. As one of only 10 cities and the only Florida engagement selected to present this direct from Broadway production, the downtown Orlando arts center is excited to welcome Into the Woods and its incredible company to Walt Disney Theater, bringing four above the title Broadway stars to Central Florida.
Notably, 17 out of 18 cast members on stage each night were in the Broadway production and 97% of the whole company, including off-stage, are also direct from Broadway.

Congratulations are in order! On May 2, Into the Woods was nominated for 6 Tony Awards including Best Revival of a Musical. Central Florida audiences have the incredible opportunity to see the 6-time Tony-nominated production right in their backyard –– all ahead of the Tony Awards on Sunday, June 11 on CBS.
