What:

The Melrose Center offers sound booths, editing computers with Adobe Creative Suite software, an LED Wall and rehearsal spaces, all available to OCLS cardholders after the completion of an orientation. Additional training grants access to professional level audio, photo and video studios; maker tools including 3D printers and laser cutters; a fiber arts studio; and a game design lab with flight and driving simulators and virtual reality stations. Subject matter experts lead classes on audio and video production, photography, maker tool usage, graphic and game design, fiber arts, performing arts and show production. The new Melrose Stage serves as a teaching space as well as a unique venue for monthly improv shows, music events and more.

Following the generous donation of $1 million from the Kendrick B. Melrose Family Foundation and 18 months of planning and construction, the Dorothy Lumley Melrose Center for Technology, Innovation and Creativity opened in February 2014. Named for Mr. Melrose’s mother in honor of her strong interest in emerging technologies, the Melrose Center occupies 26,000 square feet on the second floor of Orlando Public Library. Throughout its first decade, the Melrose Center has grown in numerous ways while staying committed to offering cutting edge resources for community members, free of charge.
