The idea behind Disney’s Genie is to “Optimize Guests’ Time to Maximize Guests’ Fun.”
There are five efforts being made to accomplish that idea:
- Work around guests plans during their visit.
- Help guests isolate and identify their top picks for attractions, dining, enertainment and more.
- Assit with dining options.
- Recommend guest experiences.
- Optimize the Park Hopper feature.
- Sequence experiences to allow for a more magical day.
The Disney Genie is an app that will replace My Disney Experience and it will launch October 19th. We had to the opportunity to use it in a testing phase and while it’s cramming a lot of information, opportunities and fun into it, once you get used to it and where everything is, we think it will be a fan favorite.
The goal is to have Genie provide flexibility. A guest will tell Genie their must do’s and interests and Genie will constantly reoptimize to find the best advice tailored for each guest! There will also be height requirement options and accessability information and options for you as you make your plans and have recommendations ready for you. You can choose from “Tip Board” or “My Day” at the top of your screen for different options and what you’re day can/will look like.
One of my favorite features is a “Chat with Cast Member” feature that’s available in the app and early in the process. It will be at the bottom of the screen, but I was assured you could chat with a cast member in minutes at any point in your planning from the app.
Now, there is a free aspect of Disney Genie, which will not include free fast passes as guests have enjoyed in the past. You can see what’s included below:
However, it will offer recommendations for your favorite rides with lower wait times, offer dining options and more. However, it’s the paid services that has everyone wondering. Well, here’s what we discovered.
Disney Genie Plus:
This will cover 40 rides across the Walt Disney World Resort. They are going to be your intermediate attractions. Take out the best two attractions in any park (as viewed on the whole) and the top rides below that would be intermediate attractions. You will be able to book experiences based on your favorite rides. When you are ready to ride, you will click “Book Experience” and you will see a time to enter the ride. You can NOT add another experience until you’ve enjoyed the one you’re waiting on. This is now known as LIGHTNING LANE! It’s essentially the fast pass system, but amended to 2021 technology and efficiency.
Along with skipping lines, you’ll have fun features such as AR+ Camera to make memories with. Think of it as Snapchat for Disney and it’s only available with the paid Disney Genie Plus option.
Lightning Lane Single Ride Option:
This is where things get fun. Take the TWO top attractions at any park:
- Magic Kingdom: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Space Mountain
- Epcot: Ratatouille and Frozen
- Hollywood Studios: Rise of the Resistance and Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railroard
- Animal Kingdom: Avatar and Everst
You can now pay a single per person price to ride these rides with NO WAIT TIME. The prices will differ based on days and how crowded the park is (how many people are using the paid ride fee). The fee will be per person and ONLY 2 of these may be purchased PER DAY. In other words, you can’t do Rise of the Resistance at Hollywood Studios and then go to Magic Kingdom and do Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Space Mountain. That would be THREE. You can only do TWO total a day!
Our Video Recap:
An Early Look:
The Genie Plus is going to start at $15 per person per day. This allows you to lessen ride wait times on 40+ rides with other in app features.
The price of the Lightning Lane Single Ride option will vary. As an example, Rise of the Resistance could be $15 per rider. Frozen could be $9 per rider. You get the idea. Again, you can only do TWO a day.
As a side note, you CAN purchase Genie Plus AND get two Lightning Lane Single Ride options. As an example, for a family of four for Genie Plus and two Lightning Lane options would run about $160 extra on your day’s total.

Disney Genie Launching Oct. 19 at Walt Disney World Resort: Create Your Best Disney Day What a week!
“The World’s Most Magical Celebration” at Walt Disney World Resort is in full swing, as we kicked off the 50th anniversary festivities on Oct. 1 with all-new experiences and countless magical moments. Now, we’re gearing up for yet another milestone: We’re excited to share that the previously announced Disney Genie service will launch on Oct. 19 at Walt Disney World Resort!
Available for all of our guests right in the My Disney Experience app, the complimentary Disney Genie service offers new features that let you create your best Disney day. These features include a personalized itinerary creator that effortlessly and smartly maps out an entire day inspired by the things you tell us you love – helping you make the most of your park time so you can have more fun.
Similar to a navigation app on your phone, Disney Genie continues to update your itinerary from morning to night as the day changes, so you can stay spontaneous and go with the flow – whether you need a nap, encounter an unexpected rain shower or want to take a detour for a Mickey ice cream bar.
Many of you have asked about how this cool new technology works. Behind the scenes, the app is capable of
magically evaluating thousands of possible itineraries in seconds – so you don’t even have to think about it! Disney
Genie puts guests at the center of the experience by prioritizing ways to:
• Reduce time in lines while keeping in mind your top picks
• Pace your day with experiences you’ll enjoy – and haven’t already done yet
• Build around your existing plans like dining reservations and Park Hopper® preferences
Disney Genie uses our 50+ years of knowledge and expertise in how guests visit our parks to make the experience
better for everyone.
With this launch, we’ll also be introducing the Lightning Lane entrance. Available for purchase through our Disney Genie+ add-on at more than 40 attractions – or individually, “a la carte” at some of our most highly demanded attractions – the Lightning Lane entrance can save you time waiting in line. Click here for a first look at the list of current attractions with Lightning Lane entrances and info on pricing.
As a reminder, attractions continue to offer a traditional standby queue or from time to time, a virtual queue may instead be used at select attractions, like right now at Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure.
To get ready for the launch, we’ve got you covered with all the information you need to know before you go – visit DisneyGenie.com for more details. Our Guest Experience Team will also be available throughout all four theme parks to assist you, and be sure to head over to planDisney for expert tips from the panelists.
Disney Genie service will come at a later date for Disneyland Resort, so stay tuned to the blog for future updates! You’ve never had a friend like this.
