Orlando Science Center World Oceans Day

Celebrate World Oceans Day, Presented by SeaWorld at Orlando Science Center on June 8. Dissect a Lionfish, try catered Lionfish, learn from community partners, and participate in workshops!

Orlando Science Center |777 E. Princeton St. | Orlando, FL 32803

Saturday, June 8  2019, 11:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

More Details:

  • Dissect a Lionfish in Dr. Dare’s Lab – Did you know Lionfish are an incredibly invasive and poisonous species and are destroying Florida’s marine ecosystems? Learn more about these creatures while dissecting them.
  • Try catered Lionfish from Grills Dockside – Completely separate from the dissection, visitors will also have the opportunity to try a cooked Lionfish while supplies last. By eating this destructive species, we can help save Florida’s ecosystems!
  • Paper Quilling in The Hive: A Makerspace Contribute to a huge marine-themed work of art!

Since 2002, World Oceans Day, has been celebrated globally with the purpose to inform the public on ocean conservation. A new addition to Orlando Science Center’s World Ocean’s Day celebration is Lionfish education. Not many people know these are an edible fish, and eating them helps ocean conservation in Florida’s waters and reduces unsustainable fishing practices. By replacing your weekly cod, or mahi-mahi with Lionfish, you can help the massive overfishing problem we face today.

World Oceans Day programming is included with admission to Orlando Science Center, which is free for members, $21 for adults, $19 for seniors and students, and $15 for youth (ages 3 – 11).
