Summer 2021 Orange County Library Fun – The Summer Reading Program continues with more virtual programming in July. Engage in experiments that test the natural world on July 7 during Wild Earth: Florida Trails. On July 14 and 28, explore the similarities between two animals and learn how to tell them apart during Comparing Animals.

Gather the family on Tuesdays for the Summer Livestream Series, which featurea a new special guest every week. Events are streamed on our YouTube and Facebook pages. Mark your calendar for July 27, when we close the series with special guests from Orlando’s very own Gatorland. The Gatorland Wranglers will share stories and fun facts about their reptile residents.   

Track your summer reading with the Beanstack app for a chance to win prizes during the Summer Reading Program. We’ll have a huge prize giveaway, thanks to a generous donation from Window World, at our End of Summer Celebration on August 7. Fridays, July 2, 16 & 30, 3 p.m.  

Easy and safe science activities for the entire family! Follow along through topics like space, chemistry, physical science and more.

Summer Livestream Series  

Tuesdays, July 6–27, 2 p.m.  

Your family can enjoy wild and fun entertainment from the comfort of home this summer with these livestreams featuring a special guest performer on the OCLS YouTube and Facebook pages.

What’s Bugging You, Florida?  

Tuesday, July 6, 10:30 a.m.  

EWWW! What’s that bug in your backyard? Learn all about creepy, crawly critters with stories, games and activities. Recommended for ages 6–8.

Wild Earth: Florida Trails  

Wednesday, July 7, 1 p.m.  

Engage in experiments that test our natural world. Learn about animals, conservation, and the sciences about the Earth. Recommended for ages 8–12.

A Trip to Outer Space con Ellen Ochoa  

Friday, July 9, 11 a.m.  

All aboard the rocket ship! Soar around our solar system with Ellen Ochoa, the first Latina to travel into space — launching from Florida, of course. Learn about her adventure through an interactive storytime in English and Spanish. Recommended for ages 3–5.

Help! I’m Endangered!  

Saturday, July 10, 10:30 a.m.  

Monday, July 26, 4 p.m.  

What do orangutans, black rhinos and blue whales have in common? They are all endangered! Learn more about these species and find out how you can help them. Recommended for ages 6–8.

Hello Zoo  

Tuesday, July 13, 10 a.m.  

Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! Enjoy stories, songs and activities in this zoo themed storytime presented in English and Spanish.

Comparing Animals  

Wednesdays, July 14 & 28, 11 a.m.  

Is it an alligator or a crocodile? A butterfly or a moth? Let’s explore how two similar animals are alike and learn to tell them apart.

Dig in the Florida Sand  

Thursday, July 15, 4 p.m.  

Florida has plenty of sand and the library has plenty of beach stories and crabby crafts. Don’t miss the fun! Recommended for ages 6–8.

Let’s Play: Animal Crossing  

Thursday, July 15, 6:30 p.m.  

Tom Nook is inviting you to celebrate Animal Crossing: New Horizons by participating in games of action and adventure that will challenge all of your Animal Crossing skills! Recommended for 13 and up.

Hooray for Birds

Clementine Hunter was a famous self-talk folk artist whose paintings captured scenes of joyous celebrations. Learn about her inspiring life and create a beautiful art pieces using her techniques.
